Ulan has over 10 years of experience in microfinance and international development. He started his career at Kompanion, a Kyrgyz microfinance institution, where he specialized in credit control, business development, and social performance management. He later served as Monitoring and Evaluation Manager for Mercy Corps, a global relief and development agency, in Afghanistan. Before joining Alterfin, Ulan oversaw MicroFinanza Rating’s regional office for central Asia, the Caucasus, and Russia. During his 3.5 years with the specialized rating agency, he conducted over 35 ratings and assessments of microfinance institutions, including SMART client protection certifications.
Ulan holds an MBA from West Texas A&M University and is a graduate of the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program.
Ulan speaks fluently Kyrgyz, Russian, and English.
