The Alterfin Guarantee Fund becomes the Alterfin Impact+ ProgramThe mortar between Alterfin's bricks

If Alterfin were a wall built by thousands of cooperative members, each sharing a brick, the Alterfin Guarantee Fund would be the mortar between the bricks. It's essential to keeping the wall standing firm. Today, the AGF is evolving into the Alterfin Impact+ Program.

As a reminder, this non-profit, managed by Alterfin, is funded through donations from cooperative members.

The new name, Alterfin Impact+ Program, better reflects everything the fund has done since it was founded in 2000. Beyond offering protection mechanisms against the risks inherent to lending — guarantees, currency hedging — it amplifies Alterfin's impact through the technical assistance projects launched in 2021.

In figures:

  • 125 partners supported since 2000
  • Currently 85% in rural microfinance
  • Capital allocation: €50,000 per year for technical assistance projects; loan guarantees: 30%; currency hedging: 70%

This model has proven itself, and we want to scale it up: the more risky loans and currencies we can cover, the more partners we can reach in emerging markets. And the more we strengthen their resilience through technical assistance, the less risky they become. ‍
