B Corp CertificationOur Score Keeps Rising

Just seven years ago, Alterfin was among the very first companies in Belgium to earn B Corp certification, starting with an initial score of 108.9. Today, with a new score of 116.3, we not only confirm our steady progress but also reaffirm our commitment to pushing the boundaries of impact finance — a testament to the fact that our pioneering spirit remains strong.

What does it mean to be B Corp certified in 2025?

Our world is changing rapidly, with geopolitical upheavals, rising extremes, and increasingly visible effects of climate change.

In this context, staying at the forefront of the global movement for an inclusive, fair, and regenerative economy is not only a priority for Alterfin — it’s a necessity.

Unlike other certifications, B Lab stands out by evaluating the full social and environmental impact of an organization, going far beyond financial performance alone.

The criteria evaluated include:

  • Governance: mission, ethics, transparency, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Workers: wellbeing, safety, fairness, and professional development.
  • Community: diversity, inclusion, local economic impact, and responsible supply chains.
  • Environment: resource management, emissions reduction, climate and biodiversity protection.
  • Customers: quality and social value of products and services, ethical marketing, and data protection.

This comprehensive perspective is what makes B Corp recognition so valuable to Alterfin — not only as an impact finance cooperative but also for our members, communities, and partners with whom we work every day.

A New Score, Continuous Progress

Nearly 9,800 B Corp companies worldwide are required to undergo this evaluation every three years. This cycle encourages continuous improvement and strengthens long-term resilience.

Alterfin has increased its score at every evaluation:

  • 108.9 in 2018
  • 115.6 in 2022
  • 116.3 in 2025

These results are particularly meaningful because Alterfin far exceeds the median score of 50.9 achieved by companies undergoing the assessment, as well as the certification threshold of 80.

This new score is not an endpoint but proof that our ambition remains unchanged: putting finance at the service of people and the planet.

Impact study

Ecookim

Cocoa sits at the centre of Côte d’Ivoire’s rural economy. It provides income to millions of smallholder farmers, yet it remains a fragile livelihood. Price volatility, climate risks, delayed payments and limited access to finance continue to shape daily uncertainty for farming households.
